Morocco has completed building a fence on its border with Algeria to ease terrorist attacks and threats from the Sahel region.

However, the fence will be extended to reach 70 kilometers from Saidia city to the Bani Hamadoun in the province of Jaradah.

Anadolo agency said that the fence would ease terrorism related to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Smugglers who crisscross the two countries will now be kept off as the fence is targeted to cover strategic areas along the Algeria-Morocco border.

To keep off terrorists, the fence has electronic sensors as the “highest alert level” according to the Minister of Interior, Mohamed Assad.

Earlier on, the minister had said that the electronic sensor fence would help monitor movements of hardline organizations’ militants.

Earlier May this year, reports indicated that the land border between the two countries was under surveillance by militants. In fact, access to such land was inaccessible without permission from the militants. There have also been disputes relating to this border before, which have necessitated its closure.
