PPC Ltd emerged victorious at the 11th Annual Standard Bank Top Women Awards in the category of Top Gender Empowered Company in Manufacturing and Engineering recently.

The awards pay tribute to those South African organizations and individuals from both the private and public sector that embraced the process of gender empowerment.

In addition to 20 years of democracy, 2014 also marked 20 years of opportunities and accomplishments for South African women. This accomplishment was reinforced by the presence of resilient and successful women such as City Press Editor, Ferial Haffajee, Supreme Court of Appeal Judge, Mandisa Maya and Blue Crane Aviation Director, Siza Mzimela who are sterling examples of the positive and profound mark women have made in the business world.

The Minister of the Department of Justice and Correctional Services, Advocate Michael Matusha took to the stage as an honorary guest speaker and highlighted key issues relating to South Africa’s youth and the importance of their social development.

PPC together with over 1000 other companies and organizations in the private and public sector, were surveyed based on criteria such as the percentage of female ownership, women in senior management positions, how many are female directors, the amount of female employees, the nature and scope of policies and programmes geared towards empowering women, as well as turnover growth of the company.

Honorary judges at the awards included,Advocate Motsehoa Brenda Madumise, South African Institute of Professional Accountants Chairperson, Shirley Olsen andKhathide Consulting CEO,Thami Kubheka.

“We are extremely proud of this great achievement. As a business, PPC continues to embrace the development and empowerment of women through initiatives such as the Women’s Forum. This recognition is testament to our business strategy,”said PPC CFO,Tryphosa Ramano.

As the leading supplier of cement and related products in southern Africa, PPC Ltd has nine manufacturing facilities and three milling depots in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe that can produce around eight million tonnes of cement products each year.

As part of its strategy and long-term plan to grow revenue by 40% outside of South Africa, PPC is expanding its operational footprint into the rest of Africa, including Algeria, Botswana, DRC, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Rwanda and Zimbabwe. PPC also produces aggregates, metallurgical-grade lime, burnt dolomite and limestone.
