SINOHYDRO Corporation Limited has been awarded a US$85m contract for construction of a 79.1Km of road. The contract was awarded to the firm by the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA), in which the contactor is going to design and construct the asphalt concrete road in the Southern Region of the country.

ERA is in the process of selecting a consulting firm for the new road construction project.

The new road is going to extend from Mender to Hana town from Omo Kuraz Sugar Factory. It will serve as a link between the sugar factory, Hana town and Sawela-Maji road. The road to be constructed is expected to reduce the Sodo-Arbaminch-Jinka-Hana-Omo route to the sugar factory by 180Km. It will also make it easy to transporting raw materials and sugar between the factory and the market. The road construction is scheduled to take two years in time for use by the sugar factory once it becomes operational.

A 60-year enterprise in power and infrastructure sectors, SINOHYDRO provides their clients with one-stop customer-tailored services from project consultancy, financing, survey, design and engineering to construction, fabrication, installation and operation.

Sinohydro Corporation Limited has constructed more than 900 KM of road in its 11 year presence in Ethiopia. These include the Assosa-Kurmuk, Gondor-Debark and Asella-dodola road construction projects.

In October this year, Ethiopia had announced it would spend US331m for road network expansion in the country. It has also awarded contracts involving roads construction to local contractors.
