Duncan-Parnell recently sat down with Frank L. Blum Construction Company, to learn how Trimble Robotic Total Stations are transforming their business. These four short video clips capture how this construction specific technology has impacted their business to minimize risk, reduce cost and increase revenue with the following features:

LAYOUT
Construction-specific functionality in the Trimble layout software allows general and concrete contractors to perform jobsite layout and measurement tasks for maximum flexibility and cost savings. The savings in both time and labor costs are sizeable on large projects. One person versus two walking the site produces cost savings while not having an individual at the instrument constantly directing the prism holder to move right or left a few inches saves a generous amount of time. Software designed specifically for contractors allows fast and accurate layout all while looking at a digital representation of a blueprint. It is also possible to view 3D designs for comparison during and after layout for confirmation of accuracy. Contractors can perform layout tasks more efficiently than with conventional methods or mechanical total stations, resulting in increased productivity.

ACCURACY
For contractors requiring range and accuracy, Trimble Robotic Total Stations have an operational range to handle any construction scenario. With superior prism tracking, and high accuracy EDM (electronic distance meter) performance, these total stations are capable of handling the largest commercial layout jobs. Precision tolerances of 1/100th of a foot (less than 1/1 6 inch) in 1000’ are possible. Additionally, the rugged RTS portfolio of Robotic Total Stations are built to withstand tough jobsite conditions, minimizing downtime due to repair.

SUBCONTRACT
Trimble Construction Positioning Solutions allow contractors to carry, manage, work with and layout the jobsite blueprint, regardless of the method and instrumentation used in a variety of commercial and residential building applications, including:
Layout control points on or offset to construction lines
Check or tie into property boundaries
Layout excavation lines
Layout of concrete forms and anchor bolts
As-built checks
Layout control lines on concrete pad for subcontractor use
Light topographical measurements for cut/fill balance

LEARNING CURVE
The Trimble Robotic Total Stations present a straightforward process for construction layout applications. With a simple user interface Trimble data collectors offer users simple 2D layout settings to more advanced 3D capabilities all with a smooth learning curve to move to the field in a short period of time.
