West Africa is gearing up for massive growth in urbanisation and infrastructure development. Having overtaken East Africa by attracting 23% of total investments in projects in Africa with a value of almost $75 billion in projects, opportunities in the West African cement, concrete and construction industries are in the spotlight.

Industry and construction accounts for 16% of total GDP in Africa’s largest economy, Nigeria. As West Africa’s economic epicentre, Lagos is poised to become the world’s largest coastal megacity and will also set the scene for the 2015 African Construction Expo and Totally Concrete West Africa. The unique conference and expo will provide a platform for cement and construction industry magnates to convene this September for access to government stakeholders and investors who can facilitate commercial access into West Africa’s high growth markets.

The 2015 African Construction Expo and Totally Concrete West Africa boasts an advisory board of invaluable international expertise including: Vipul Agrawal, Technical Assistance Director, United Cement Company of Nigeria LTD. (UniCem), Nigeria; Mark Alexander, Professor of Structural Engineering and Materials, University of Cape Town, South Africa; Barr.Emmanuel Cobham, Director General, NACCIMA, Nigeria; Soren Du Preez, Programme Director Africa, Hypenica, South Africa; Victor Eromosele, CEO/Chairman, Mentor Energy Consulting Ltd, Nigeria; Olonade Kolawole, Department of Civil Engineering, Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria; Joe Osae-Addo, CEO, Constructs LLC, Ghana and Gill Owens, Editor, Concrete Trends, South Africa.

Despite its leading economic position on the continent, Nigeria has significant infrastructure challenges to address in a very short time and will require stakeholders across various industries to come together and find comprehensive solutions. African Construction Expo and Totally Concrete West Africa is expected to attract over 500 attendees, making it the region’s most comprehensive networking platform across the cement, concrete and construction value chain, delivering unique insights on the latest developments and technologies associated with the concrete and construction industry. The interactive discussions focus on challenges and innovative solutions and will also identify new opportunities in the industry. Over 30 international, high-level speakers will present their views through presentations, case studies and interactive panels. Some of these include Joe Ossae-Addo, CEO of Constructs, LLC with a panel of West African architects to discuss “The African Condition”, looking at regional development through the lens of architecture, and Dr. Olumide Eniola Akinduro, Director of Works for the Federal Ministry of Works Nigeria, who will elaborate on Nigeria’s development goals to rank amongst the world’s top 20 economies by 2030. With many more speakers from West Africa and beyond, African Construction and Totally Concrete West Africa will set the agenda in driving growth and development in the region.

Sponsored by Kumkang Kind and PERI, and hosted by media partners Concrete.TV and Concrete Trends, the African Construction Expo and Totally Concrete West Africa is building on the success of 2014 Totally Concrete West Africa event. “This is the first time I have seen an exhibition of this calibre in Lagos,” said Vipul Agrawal, Technical Director, UNICEM, Nigeria and advisory board member for the 2015 event.
