A new construction project in Mozambique has cemented Pilosio’s top position in Southern Africa.

Apart from  the major infrastructure project still under construction in Durban, the Mount Edgecombe motorway junction, which includes two of the longest bridges in the country,CMC Africa Austral has once again chosen Pilosio as the partner to supply provisional solutions for the construction of a viaduct to connect the cities of Marrupa and Litunde, in Mozambique.

The construction project in Mozambique is part of a development programme of transport links and infrastructure in the country, and involves the construction of a section of road consisting of a viaduct with seven spans going through the savannah, which will improve accessibility to the city of Lichinga.

The customer chose the following construction solutions: MAXIMIX for the casting of the decks and for two different shoring systems and SIMPLEX towers and MP heavy-duty towers for the portals, thereby optimizing the construction site’s requirements.

The MAXIMIX formwork system with wooden beams was chosen by the customer to make the “T” girders, 2.40m tall made of self-compacting concrete, upon which the road itself would be built. The MAXIMIX system enables the construction of large sized panels and of geometrical shapes of any type, with high capacity and limited weight. It is particularly suitable for large-scale infrastructure work, where large surface modules can be assembled on-site, thereby maximizing site productivity. In particular, the system can be designed for very high pressures of fresh cement and by varying the distance between the PL20 wooden beams and steel beams, the scale of the module can be adapted to the needs of the project. Furthermore, it is far easier to reach the construction site and handle a system with wooden beams rather than with other systems in steel.

For the support system SIMPLEX tables were chosen, with an average height of 5.80m, thus guaranteeing a capacity of 200kN per tower. Among the Pilosio shoring systems, this is the most convenient in situations where the soil is fairly even. SIMPLEX is an extremely rapid table system for in-situ casting of concrete slabs, especially suited for remarkable heights and loads in the construction of infrastructures and large buildings. The Table handling device requires only two operators and allows setting up and stripping operations to be done simply and quickly.

The heavy-duty towers, made with the MP multidirectional system, served, instead, to support the heavy girder, specifically designed for making underpasses that allow the passage of existing roads and waterways.

In this project, the height of the towers is 4.80 m. Each vertical element of the high capacity MP HD Towers consists of 4 MP uprights connected to each other by a lower and upper frame: each column therefore having a capacity of 200kN, equivalent to 800Kn per tower.

Pilosio is one of the leading European company in the field of construction and maintenance equipment. It was founded in 1961 as a manufacturer of scaffolds and formworks for above-ground walls, floors, ground containment systems, as well as equipment for both sale and rental. Moreover, Pilosio is specialized in the design, construction and sale of stage structures such as stage-boxes, platforms, coverings, and sound and video towers. Pilosio is an international company: it is not only a significant presence nationally, but it is also strongly focused towards foreign markets, in particular Middle East, North Africa, South Africa, Canada and United States, Southern America, Eastern Europe, C.I.S. and Australia. The company registered an export quota equivalent to 80 per cent, in 2014.
