The Construction Industry Federation of Zimbabwe (CIFOZ) congress is scheduled to take place next month in Nyanga Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe’s Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere is expected to be the guest of honor at the event that is scheduled to take three days from 28th to 30th of July 2016 at the Troutbeck Resort.

Concurrently, the country’s biggest and oldest representative organ for the construction industry, having more than 600 members on its register, will also host its annual general meeting (AGM) during the congress.

This year’s edition is coming at a time when the construction sector is grappling with several challenges brought about by the prevailing economic environment.

These include among others, the high cost of doing business, an acute liquidity crunch, high costs of borrowing and short-term funding on the local market which is very expensive for working capital and capitalization.

Apart from that, the government is also demanding that local contractors show proof of money which is more or less equivalent to the value of the project for them to be considered for projects.

Mr. Martin Chingaira, the chief executive of Construction Industry Federation of Zimbabwe (CIFOZ) said at least 200 delegates are expected to attend the congress.

Chingaira revealed that the congress would deliberate on reviving the construction industry and stimulating growth.

The theme of the event will be “Sustained Frameworks in infrastructure development”. The event will also be used to mark 100 years of existence.

“We are inviting Minister Kasukuwere to be our guest of honour at the congress to be held from the 28th to the 30th of July at the Troutbeck Resort in Nyanga,” Chingaira told Property News from Conquenar House, the CFOZ headquarters.

Chingaira added that the congress’ agenda was “exciting”, with pertinent and relevant issues to the built environment. He added that the event will attract professionals to share knowledge  and experience from their respective economies.
