The Association of Ethiopian Architects (AEA) has said that the nation is in dire need of quality-driven architectural designs in a bid to sustain its ongoing fastest urbanization.

Speaking at Association 18th Annual Convention yesterday, Construction State Minister Kalid Abdulrehman said: “Ethiopia had been the least urbanized country in Africa and the world for many years but now the fastest and the largest urban growth is taking place in this country more than ever.”

He further said that the government is committed to create best and environmental friendly cities that go along with the ongoing industrialization move.
According to Kalid, Ethiopian architects need to exert relentless efforts in owning modern urban fabric and shaping future cities in the country.

Association President Wondessen Demerew said that skill gap among fresh architecture graduates, failure to upgrade ones professional career and monitoring mechanism for a given architectural design were cited as major hindrances in the construction industry.

In a message of solidarity, Africa Union of Architects President Kaisi Kalambo said: ” I am so amused by the current rapid urbanization process in Ethiopia.”

He called on African architects to work in unison with a view to sharing knowledge and experience as well as speeding up the urbanization process in Africa.

Exhibition organized in connection with Association 25th anniversary was also opened on the occasion.
