Kenya plans to construct a major airport in the Eastern part of the country,area governor Martin Wambora has announced. The multi-million dollar airport in Kenya will be constructed in Embu County. The  International Airport is expected to cost US$ 99 Million.

Embu Governor Martin Wambora said his county is currently in talks with the National government along with other partners to ensure that the multi-million dollar airport in Kenya kicks off as soon as possible during his tenure in office.

He added that the Airport in Kenya’s Embu County would be constructed a fresh or look into expanding the current airstrip at Don Bosco and transform it into international standards.

Wambora said that he has championed a group of foreign investors who have agreed to pump in more funds that will see the project kick off.

“If we construct the Airport we will be sure to get more revenues as the county, improve the business situation in the county.

He said a concept paper was already being worked on by the Ministry of Transport that will see the airstrip’s runway extended from the current 1.5 kilometres to four kilometres.

“We want to transform the countries transport sector and the construction of the Airport will see us get to the level that we all want to see the county be at” he added
He said the completed airport would have terminal buildings, warehouses, hangars, aprons and free trade zone.
Asked if the Sh10 billion was available, an upbeat Mr Wambora said: “The money will be found.”

The Embu Airstrip is situated approximately 10 minutes by road South East of Embu’s central business district, along the Embu-Kiritiri Highway.

The governor added that the construction of the project is expected to kick off early next year and will take some months to complete and that will be determined by the terms and conditions of the contractor.

“Once we finish on getting funds we will consult good consultants to ensure that we get a contractor who will carry out the projects well” he added
