Lafarge Africa Plc, a leading construction Solutions Company based in Nigeria, has unveiled its 2015 Sustainability Report in accordance with the latest standard of the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) G4 making it one of the  few companies in Nigeria to achieve the reporting best practice.

The company’s 2015 Sustainability Report was launched at the Grand Finale of the third edition of the Lafarge Africa National Literacy Competition at the MUSON Centre in Lagos.

While commenting on the strategic reason for initiating the report, Lafarge Africa Plc Chairman, Mr. Mobolaji Balogun, said that sustainability is a crucial part of Lafarge’s corporate strategy, both at the Group and in the entire Nigeria.

According to Mr. Mobolaji, the company’s sustainability development plan dubbed The 2030 Plan, is the company’s internal roadmap on how it plans to play its own part in addressing the globe’s biggest problems as the company has the responsibility and opportunity to make a positive difference.

“The Sustainability Report is, therefore, part of our methodology of increasing our level of transparency in sharing our sustainable development performance with our stakeholders,” Balogun disclosed, adding that the report is a voluntary disclosure, beyond listing requirements.

He also informed that the report reiterates Lafarge’s commitment to promoting best practices and engaging with the company’s internal and external stakeholders.

MD/CEO of Lafarge Africa, Mr. Michel Puchercos while commenting on the issue, said: “Driven by our ambition to set new standards and help transform the way our industry works, this report helps us to review, prioritize and take key decisions for improving our company’s sustainability efforts.’ Puchercos also informed that sustainability sets Lafarge apart in how the company intends to conduct its business in Nigeria.”

“It is an integral part of our operations, being one of the six pillars of Lafarge’s strategy and our vision aligns with the LafargeHolcim Group’s Sustainability Strategy, The 2030 Plan, which sets up on the path of Building for Tomorrow,” he said.

Adding that 2015 was a very important year for sustainable development, Puchercos said the company is happy to be unveiling the report for the same year when the Paris agreement held, after the COP21 conference on climate change and the launch of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
