SunPumps is a pump manufacturer with all their products made in their factory in Safford, Arizona, which means that they can be very responsive and that product quality control is excellent.
Their products can be categorized in four categories, defined by the depth of the well and the amount of water needed.
Diaphragm Pumps (SDS series) –
These pumps can reach up to 200 feet, but only pump a few gallons per minute. They are perfect for several homes or for stock water or small-scale irrigation. These pumps are unique because of the very small amount of power they require – less than 100 watts of photovoltaics in most applications. They are light and easy to install, meaning that most of them are installed and serviced by users. SunPumps makes a controller that is simple to use and is housed in a rugged PVC watertight box. These pumps represent the kind of technology that is changing life in Africa every day.
Centrifugal Pumps (SCS series) –
These pumps use brushless DC motors up to 3 Hp coupled with centrifugal pumps to provide a wide range of flows and depths. These are generally sufficient for village water projects, for medium scale irrigation or for school or clinic water supplies. The pumps are paired with a variety of solar modules and are highly reliable.
Motor Drives for Pumps –
SunPumps has recently developed a proprietary motor drive that will connect directly between an array of solar modules and a three phase pump motor. These drives can run motors up to 100 Hp, meaning they are suitable for large irrigation projects or municipal water projects. The development of this product was driven by the recent decrease in the cost of solar modules, meaning that farmers in Africa can now profitably replace diesel generators with solar arrays to drive their existing irrigation wells without replacing any down hole components. The recent boom in pivot and drip irrigation means that there is a huge market for this new product.

Surface or Swimming Pool Pumps – SunPumps pairs their brushless DC motors with conventional pool pumps and filters to provide solar powered pool filtration in areas without grid power, or as in most African markets, whenever power is unreliable. These pumps can also be used for pressure systems or for irrigation from cisterns, streams or ponds.
