South Africa and other African countries will be embracing on the televisions a construction reality show for the first time. Cement producer Pretoria Portland Cement Company Limited (PPC) has collaborated with residential project developer Calgro M3 and construction industry representative body Master Builders South Africa to bring an eight-part reality series, PPC Cement’s Building Better Homes Challenge, to South African television viewer.

Pretoria Portland Cement Company Limited or simply PPC Cement is a South African cement producing company with eight manufacturing facilities, capable of producing more than seven million tons of cement products each year and three milling depots in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe.

Established in 1995, Calgro M3 is a mixed-use/integrated residential development company operating through its subsidiaries. Its uniquely successful business model offers: Acquisition of land, Township establishment (town planning, etc), Civil and electrical infrastructure (bulk, link and internal services), Project management, Construction, Marketing and sales.

The two companies have teamed up to bring a unique and interesting television series for the first time to show in Africa. The concept is designed in a way that it will follow the progress of four teams, preselected during a competitive nationwide audition. The tasks in the whole exercise compelled the contenders with various construction-related challenges, including concrete mixing, plastering, paving and brick laying, as they battle to transform an unfinished dwelling.

To the benefits of the winners is a grand prize of a new Toyota Hilux Turbo Diesel, 1 t of PPC cement and $24000 in cash.
The Building Better Homes Challenge will be screened on South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC 2) which is a public service and commercial broadcasting organization every Monday from April 14 to June 2.
