Department of Human Settlement has released its budget and according to the human settlement MEC Jacob Mamabolo, US $0.42bn will be used for all housing programmes in the department, something which will be of help to the many citizens looking for housing help.

Mamabolo also noted that the rapid urbanization in Gauteng called for new homes which accommodated people of different races. The housing department was capable of bringing this into place through the use of land and houses.

The department would ensure that the appropriate pieces of land are bought so that the rent can be affordable to the locals. US $4.72m would be used for acquisition of land parcels.

Mixed income housing projects will help prevent discrimination as people with different incomes will be able to live as neighbours. All South Africans were advised to apply for government subsidiaries.

The housing department had already offered shelter to 53 Alexandra families that had been evicted and was in the process of building 91 emergency units for families that were displaced in Marlboro.

The budget was presented by Mamabolo to the Gauteng Legislature for adoption.
