Construction works on the 23km second phase of asphaltic overlay has commenced in Tema, Ghana. However, the first phase of the project is currently at 4.5km as asphalt is being laid on the roads with all pot holes and patches required to be filled according to Site Engineer, Augustine Dadzie.

This was made known during the flag-off ceremony by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly in charge of the project. The road construction project aims at improving infrastructure and easing traffic due to bad conditions of roads in the country. The road construction project will involve asphalt lying from Community 12 roundabout to connection at Road 51.

According to the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Isaac Ashai Odamtten, funds for the 23-kilometre road construction have already been released by the government in support of the project. According to him, a lot of money has been channeled in maintenance of roads. “It is better to invest money into the construction of newer roads that will last longer,” he added.

He indicated that they were satisfied with the progress of work and have committed to using local contractors to improve infrastructure and employment at large.

The country has recently commenced Phase II of Takoradi port expansion project according to recent announcement.
