US$0.99bn has been allocated for different infrastructure projects for the financial year 2015-2016 by KwaZulu Natal Provincial Government. According to the Financial MEC for KwaZulu Natal Belinda Scott, the total amount for 2015-2016 will be over US $2.95bn.
Scott noted that the 2015-2016 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) budget would include both the conditional grant funded infrastructure and the equitable share.
The transport sector, through the Department of Transport, will spend US $1.69bn on different infrastructure projects. This will be part of the operation KuShunguthuli and African Renaissance Roads Upgrading Programme (ARRUP) on road development in the rural areas.
THE Department of Health will receive US $0.35bn. There will be construction of a new hospital in Pixley ka Seme worth US $37.84m with 500beds and another hospital in Ngwelezane worth US $6.58m with 192 beds.
The education sector will receive US$0.57bn for construction of new classrooms and ablution blocks in different districts.
Scott further noted that some of the key programmes include the rural housing programme, informal settlement programme, Integrated Residential housing programme, emergency housing programme, Rectification programme and the Enhanced Extended Discount Benefit Scheme (EEDBS).
