The 23 Km Sero-Shenen River roads in Ethiopia has finally been completed, this is after three years of construction.

However, its opening will be delayed due to the construction of a further 36 Km extension that is supposed to link Shenen River to Sheik Hussein which has another one bridge to go.

According to the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) the two roads cost US$ 17m and it entailed the construction of eight bridges, box culverts and drainage works. The roads are projected to increase the tourism flow to Dire Sheikh Hussein and the Sof Omar caves and also enhance trade transactions between semi-agrarian and agrarian communities in the area.

The Sero-Shenen River road was constructed by Samson Chernet General Contractor, with consultant supervision provided by Stadia Engineering Works & Consultant Plc, while the Shenen River-Sheik Hussein road which is still under construction is done by Yosef Teketel, by a joint consultation with Nich Plc, and Gogot Engineering Plc.
For the second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II), the Ethiopian Roads Authority has planned to build 110,000Km of roads in the country.

The total cost of the road will be covered by the Ethiopian government and will be paid to the contractor in local currency.
