A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Sol Group Limited and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to put up a 400MW capacity power station in Ghana at a cost of US$400m.

The Sol Group Limited is a UK-based development company while BHEL is India’s largest engineering and manufacturing firm of power plants having installed a cumulative capacity of 10,000MW of power in overseas countries including Malaysia, Oman, Libya, Iraq, the UAE, Bhutan, Egypt and New Zealand.

In reference to the Managing Director of Sol Group Ghana, Peter Osei-Tutu, the company is optimistic in providing sufficient power solution for the people of Ghana by building more power stations that will boost the country’s economy growth.

According to the political and economic counsellor at the High Commission of Ghana in New Delhi, Iddrisu Tahiru who was also present at the signing ceremony, foreign investment in Ghana’s energy sector is most important as the Ministry of Power is in the process of reviewing the Sol Group’s proposal.

The BHEL Deputy General Manager, Sanjay Garg signed the MoU on behalf of the Company following their project contract victory. The company also has a competitive track-record of on-budget and on-time delivery since 1964 across India and around the world particularly in Africa. He also expressed his excitement and confidence on executing a successful venture in Ghana.
