Dangote Group has commissioned its cement plant in Zambia which has the capacity of 1.5million metric tonnes per year. The US$400m plant will be support with a 30MW coal plant for its power need. The cement plant was inaugurated at the Masasiti district, Ndola in Zambia by the Zambia President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
Also present at the inauguration ceremony was the Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, UBA Plc Chairman, Tony Elumelu, Adams Oshiomhole and his wife, the Nestle Nigeria Plc Chairman, Chief Kola Jamodu, the former Ekiti State Governor, Niyi Adebayo among other VIPs from Nigeria and Zambia who graced the ceremony.
Speaking at the event the Nigerian Vice President described the completed cement plant project as a major vital bilateral relationship between the two countries. He further extended his gratitudes to the government and citizens of Zambia having approved, embraced and nurtured it to completion.
However, according to President Lungu, of Zambia, the country has enjoyed cordial bilateral relationships with Nigeria over the years and he assured to continue encouraging the private sector initiatives to engage in similar projects country wide and even outside the country.
The Dangote Group President, Aliko Dangote who was also present at the ceremony revealed that, the Zambian cement plant is the sixth out of his 14 cement plants in Africa which are operational adding that 4 more new plants will be inaugurated before the end of 2015 to help foster bilateral relationship between the African countries.
Apart for Dangote Group pioneering the role of Africans investing in Africa, the Group has on the other hand created employment opportunities across the continent, bridging economy among African countries as well as promoting peace and unity through his investments in Africa.
