Road reconstruction in South African city of Cape Town has begun on various sections along the M3 and M5 freeways.

The reconstruction work is expected  to take up to four weeks thus affecting the flow of traffic in the City. However, the City of Cape Town’s transport authority indicated that work will be scheduled in such a way that it doesn’t cause much distraction on traffic flow as much as possible.

Some of the affected areas of the M5 freeway will be the southbound carriageway, from the Wetton Road Bridge to the first bridge joint, the northbound carriageway, from the last bridge joint to the Wetton Road Bridge, Ottery on-ramp and off-ramp.

Work on the on-ramp and off-ramp will be done only on Sunday having a full closure with completion set for completion in November.

There would be an open lane for traffic though there will still be congestion due to the closure of the other lane.

Reconstruction work on the M3 freeway is currently being done from Kendal Road Bridge to the unfinished bridge. One lane will also be closed on this section. Traffic congestion should be anticipated on this section too.

This section is set for completion end of October. Road reconstruction in South African city of Cape town has gained pace in recent days as the city boosts its infrastructure.
