The construction of terminal two of Cairo Airport in Egypt is progressing well after a delegation from the main sponsor of the project visited the site.

A delegation of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) visited on last week and the Terminal 2 at Cairo International Airport to inspect the last phase of construction ahead of its trial operation in the first quarter of 2016.

The delegation included World Bank Country Director for Egypt, Yemen, Djibouti, Middle East and North Africa Asad Alam and others.

Chairman of the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN) Mahmoud Esmat received the delegation at the airport.

Alam hailed the new project, adding that the World Bank is proud to fund and construct this project in Egypt.

The construction of terminal two of Cairo Airport in Egypt is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2016 and is expected to be of great importance to the transport sector of Egypt.

Renovation and development of terminal building 2 (TB2) at Cairo International Airport is part of a second airport development project.

The total built-up area of the project is about 123,000 square metres comprising the renovation of the existing building and landside area, as well as the construction of new buildings that include a new departure hall and airside pier which will duplicate the existing total built-up area.

The project also include the construction of all ancillary buildings, services, electromechanical works/ equipment, baggage handling system (tilt tray sorter system).

The renovated TB2 is expected to accommodate 7.5 million passenger a year, which is almost double the current capacity.
