The Department of Labor has  announced that investigations into the M1 bridge collapse in South Africa will take months to complete. The construction of the project was being carried out by leading construction firm Murray and Roberts.

The department says the aim of the investigations is to determine the reasons why the scaffolding around the under construction pedestrian bridge caved in a few weeks ago.

The collapse of the bridge resulted in the death of two people while another 19 were injured leaving three them in a critical condition.

According to the department of Labor, investigations will take up to 6 months and preliminary findings on the same indicate that there was a breach of occupational health and safety code at the construction site.

According to the Acting Director General of the Department of Labour, Aggie Moiloa, the investigations will take a bit of time. This is because of the fact there are different firms that were involved in the construction and the cases differ.

The Department of labour is working on setting up a commission of inquiry on the same and a presiding officer for it will be announced soon.
The Chief Inspector, Tobor Szana also commented saying that they would not speculate on the causes and they would only work with facts.

The M1 bridge collapse in South Africa had been completed before the Labour department ordered the probe to start afresh arguing that the incident was not an accident.
