US based construction firm Kennedy Construction, has been contracted to construct a new, secure entrance for the Johnson County Courthouse in Iowa. This comes after the Johnson County Board of Supervisors awarded the contract to the construction company.

According to the president and owner of Kennedy Construction, Mark Kennedy, the construction work is expected to kick off in 2-3 weeks when the planning and pre-construction work is concluded. However, the project is as well expected to be completed by either end of January of February.

Among the requirement for the project is a metal structure at the rear of the courthouse and a free-standing. The court house will have a metal detector, an X-ray machine and walk-through scanner to provide additional security for anyone accessing the courthouse. In the meantime the main entrance will remain closed as the emergency exit serves the purpose.

However, the project supervisors have a plan for the new entrance given that security measures at the courthouse are only a part of a larger push the county has made through 3 failed bond referendums since 2012 intended to fund the courthouse new county jail expansion.

Moreover, the construction company needs to coordinate with the courthouse staff as the building will remain open for normal activities despite the construction work progresses.
