South Korea’s second-largest automobile manufacturer Kia Motors Corporation says it is constructing Auto mechanic training centres in Kenya and Ethiopia  as part of its global CSR programme.

An official from Kia Motors confirmed that the company held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new center in Ethiopia and another one in Kenya. The official pointed out that building the training centers in the two countries is a part of the Kia’s charity Green Light Project (GLP).

The GLP is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity that is run by Kia Motors Corporation to support some of the developing countries by providing education and opportunities for them.

The two training centres that are yet to be developed in the two countries; Ethiopia and Kenya are estimated to contribute to job creation and boost their economies as well.

Many high profile persons participated in the ceremony which was held in Addis Ababa; Chung Jin-haeng, President of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors, with First Lady Roman Tesfaye, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) President Kim In-shik and Ethiopia World Vision President Edward Brown were all present during the event.

KOICA which is a governmental organization has immense experience where they offer grant aid programs to developing countries, it will be of assistance in building the training centers and manage the education program after completion.

In Kenya, the training centre is anticipated to be built in Nairobi by the first half of next year and at Good Neighbours International-this is one of Korea’s largest NGOs with more than 2,000 professional staff and 20,000 volunteers.

Kia Motors Corporation, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea is the second-largest automobile manufacturer after Hyundai Motor Company, with sales of over 2.7 million vehicles in 2012 and almost 2.75 million vehicles in 2013.
