New Development for Hilti- Waterfall Logistics Precinct, Waterfall City.

The new development, ideally located between Midrand and Sandton, is one of the largest ‘greenfield’ urban concept developments in the country. The waterfall precinct features an extensive variety of retail, including the iconic Mall of Africa, City Lodge as well as leading commercial and industrial companies.

Empowered Spaces Architects’ design for Hilti, consists of a 1 700mwarehouse and a 2 000moffice building. The entrance is a mirage of high-performance, environmentally friendly tinted glazing, fringed by spandrel panels.

The design allows for comfortable working environment, because the glass façade allows for maximum natural sunlight to illuminate the lobby and office space, while the spandrel panels limit the harsh western sunlight.

In addition, energy-efficient fittings and air-conditioning systems are apparent throughout, with sufficient insulation in the walls and roof allowing for optimum conditions throughout the rest of the building.

The unique angled roof aids in the modern aesthetic of the warehouse- it wraps over the office space while encapsulating the otherwise invisible warehouse, and peaks over the north-facing façade.

Empowered Spaces’ counterpart Ispaces created the interiors of the Hilti office building, and the concept was derived from Hilti’s corporate colours and equipment. This meant blending bright red elements into subtle and understated monochrome surfaces.

In conclusion, the 2016 SAPOA awards so the introduction of the Lifetime Achievement Awards for excellence awarded to Norbet Sasse, the CEO of Growthpoint Properties. The award honours and celebrates the exceptional contributions made by an individual who has changed the face of South Africa and the landscape of the property sector through sustained leadership, major pioneering contribution and outstanding legacy to the South African Property industry and community.
