The newly constructed Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Field Hospital, built under the directives of Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has been inaugurated by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Guinea, Doctor Colonel Remy Lamah, and representatives from the United Arab Emirates and Emirates Global Aluminium’s Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC).

The hospital was erected and fitted out in a record time of only 30 days in Conakry, the capital city of the West African country, by Tamouh Healthcare, which is affiliated with the International Holdings Company (IHC), and Weatherhaven, a world leader in the design, manufacture and installation of portable turnkey shelters, camps and field hospitals, as well as provision of in-service support, with the help of GAC, a bauxite mining and export operation and a wholly-owned subsidiary of EGA, the world’s largest ‘premium aluminium’ producer and the biggest industrial company in the UAE outside oil and gas.

The facility is equipped with 208 beds, 48 of which are in the intensive care unit. It also has a pharmacy and a medical laboratory. The hospital has been handed over to the Guinean State and, moving forward, it will be managed and operated by the country’s Ministry of Health.

Gratitude to the parties behind the construction of the hospital   

Doctor Colonel Remy Lamah, Guinean Minister of Health on behalf of Professor Alpha Condé the President of the Republic and on the behalf of the Guinean people thanked the UAE leadership for funding the construction of the hospital, as well as all the stakeholders involved for the incredible job they have done along with other partners for building the field hospital quickly and professionally.

“Broad, fast action is needed to reduce the spread of COVID-19 virus and the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Field Hospital will help us do just that by strengthening our ability to respond to the pandemic and to improve our economic and social recovery,” he concluded.
