The project involves the development of road connectivity to border areas and the development of coastal roads including road connectivity for non-major ports. Additionally, Bharatmala Pariyojna includes improvement in the efficiency of national corridors, development of economic corridors, inter corridors, and feeder routes among others.

The project was proposed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and announced back in 2017.

2. Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor Project (DMIC)

Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor Project is a US$ 90 billion-plus industrial development in India.

It is a 1,483 km railway track worked into nine “Mega Industrial Zones”. The project was started in pursuance of an agreement signed between India’s government and Japan in 2006 December. The main aim of the billion-dollar scheme is to create a quick, reliable trade route linking the north of India to the south.

The DMIC project encompasses the development of industrial cities, infrastructure facilities, logistics and transport systems, power plants, and other associated amenities. It aims to create a globally competitive manufacturing and investment destination by establishing industrial clusters along the corridor, attracting domestic and foreign investments, and boosting economic growth in the region.

DMIC Development Corporation (DMICDC) is the implementing agency of the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor Project.
