German PV and energy storage firm IBC Solar has established its own regional company in South Africa.

IBC Solar has over 30 years’ experience in the South African market, executing many projects with its partner maxx solar energy, but currently the new company IBC Solar South Africa has a head office in Cape Town and has access to a major network of local solar installers.

The new regional company will be led by Albert Engelbrecht and Dieter Ortmann.  Mr. Engelbrecht will be accountable for the international distribution business as director of international solutions, while Mr. Ortmann is managing director of maxx solar energy.

“The South African PV market has significant expansion latent. Solar power is now much cheaper than electricity from the grid. This results, in particular, in a vast need for self-consumption and storage systems for private homes and the commercial sector,” said Mr. Engelbrecht in a statement.

Mr. Ortmann said: “I look forward to additionally increase the presence of IBC SOLAR in South Africa. In addition to becoming a traditional trading company with systems and components, the focal point of our business is principally on consulting, setting up and executing diesel hybrid, off-grid and storage systems.”

The newly-established South African company is the ninth international firm for IBC Solar, which is active in over 30 countries worldwide. South Africa contains some of Sub Saharan Africa’s largest PV projects, and has an affluence of renewable energy installed credit to the governments procurement programme (REIPPPPP). South Africa now accounts for 65% of the continent’s collective installed PV capacity at roughly 1.4GW according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

IBC Solar is a Germany based photovoltaics specialist, presenting solutions for solar-generated power. The company, launched in 1982, provides customized solutions, project management, consultation and planning of the photovoltaic installation.
