Polymer manufactures and develops environmentally friendly smart materials for road construction, dust control, barrier liners and spray on geo liners for dams. These Smart Materials include in-situ material binders, soil modifiers, asphalt modifiers and elastomeric mortar admixtures, which are ideal for rural and provincial roads. Polyroads is the sole supplier to ESKOM throughout South Africa, for dust suppression on its flyash stockpiles using Dust Tech polymers. All projects are managed and supervised by the company’s polymer experts to ensure customer expectations are exceeded.
Initially Polyroads developed products exclusively to address dust suppression on mines. However, over the years the product range has broadened substantially with the company’s products being readily adopted in the private and Government sectors.
The company is constantly developing new technologies for the construction industry as it focuses to be the foremost developer of Material Sciences for the Mining and Construction Industry. Smart Materials enables the utilization of in-situ and waste materials, to mitigate carbon emissions that are traditionally associated with conventional construction methodologies.
Smart Materials challenges the core of conventional road construction and design, by bringing in unprecedented resilient modulus flexibility, which is required for Mechanistic-Empirical (ME) road designs. Smart Materials, reduces the number of supporting aggregate layers for cement modified/stabilized flexible and rigid road designs, and there by substantially reducing construction costs.
During the past 70 years, a number of countries have been researching and developing various polymeric admixtures in modified concrete mortars. Today, the USA,Germany, Japan have Standard Specifications for polymer modified mortars and concretes. However, in general the construction industry has been pedestrian in adopting technology. Smart Materials have been developed as a renaissance to the stoic road construction industry. Layered pavement designs have not changed for the last 100 years.
Polymer Pavements, also known as Polyroads, is a Southern Africa based company with representatives in eighteen countries on four continents. The firm is able to mobilize plant and offer turnkey road construction projects internationally via a network of affiliated construction companies and partners. These services includes; the construction of transport, township, mining and environmental infrastructure including roads, bulk earthworks, landfill sites, decline shafts, terraces for new developments and municipal services.
