Sun-Mar Corporation designs, manufactures, markets and distributes products for the composting and recycling sector. The company was founded in 1983, is privately owned and headquartered in Ontario, Canada with facilities in New York, USA.

Since its inception, the company has been recognized as an industry leader with a strong reputation for its innovative design, superior patented technology and proven quality. In addition, the company has solidified its leadership position with certification though the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF).
Sun-Mar products are sold worldwide through a network of thousands of retail dealers and plumbing wholesalers, through international distributors and through original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as mining equipment suppliers, prefab/modular building manufacturers, disaster relief coordination and recreational vehicle suppliers.
The composting toilets can be used in situations where a conventional toilet either cannot be used, or an environmentally friendly alternative is desired. All Sun-Mar toilets feature a Bio-Drum technology unique to it and protected by a set of patents. They offer simple installation and maintenance, require no plumbing, no water, are odor free, and are inexpensive when compared to alternative solutions (such as septic systems).
In addition, they produce no pollution, save water and recycle nutrients back to nature. Typical installations are homes, cottages, garages, warehouses, barns, cabins, mines, eco-resorts and remote buildings of any description where there is no municipal sewer access.
The standalone series of composting toilets combines the toilet assembly and the composting assembly into a single unit. A representative of this series of composting toilets, the Compact is shown in the figure to the right.
According to experts in the company, it’s important to understand the technology. There are many products that are described as “composting” toilets. In fact, most waste treatment methods (including municipal sewer treatment plants, septic systems, or even an outhouse) rely on biological decomposition (or composting) and therefore could be called “composting” systems. What distinguishes Sun-Mar toilets from other “composting” systems is that Sun-Mar units optimize the living conditions for the most active form of microbes which dramatically speeds up the decomposition process (by approximately 100 times) and eliminates odor. The end product is safe useful fertilizing soil which is easily removed approximately 5 to 6 times per year.
