President William Ruto has commissioned upgrading to paved standard and performance-based routine maintenance of the Isiolo Town Roads (LOT 2). The 6km project road falls within Isiolo town and comprises the 1.3km Isiolo Airport-Mattercare hospital road. Additionally, 2.7km Trojan-LMD Road, and 2km Catholic-IWASCO Water Kiosk road.
Speaking during the launch on Thursday, the president directed Roads Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to ensure the completion of the Kina-Garbatula road within one year.
“We want to change the face of Isiolo and we can only do that through infrastructure development,” said the president.

The roads which were constructed at the cost of Ksh.319 million are complete with the Isiolo Township Road (Phase 1). However, the Kina-Kiutine-Garbatula roads both at 89 percent to completion.
The head of state says the roads will open up Isiolo County, enhance trade and investment. Additionally, the roads will ensure seamless connectivity to key institutions.
Bridge construction project in Isiolo
Besides this, Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) is undertaking the construction of two bridges in the County. These include the Kubi Tullo Bridge and the Kipsing-Oldorini Bridge, with the commencement date slated for August this year. Already the construction of the Gortu Bridge is complete.
Once the projects are completed, Isiolo will be transformed into a business hub. This is due to its strategic position at the center of the country. Isiolo will make a great connection point between Kenya and neighboring countries like Ethiopia, South Sudan and Uganda.
The projects will boost the economic capacities of the locals of Isiolo and Kenya. The projects will create job opportunities both directly and indirectly. The projects will facilitate trade between the East African Region. Moreover, with the projects connecting neighboring towns to the Isiolo Airport, agricultural market will be actualized.
