Major road construction project in Rwanda has commenced in bid to create an effective means of transport for goods and services for residents.

The District Executive Secretary Mr. Raymond Kamanzi confirmed the news and said that the project kicked off on 4th of April and that it will effectively provide a means of transport for the goods and services of the residents.

He added that once the road is complete it will enable them to exploit the opportunities in the long awaited cross border market.

“Lacking good roads in the district affects people’s businesses due to poor transportation systems but the new road that is under construction will solve this problem,” Mr. Kamanzi said.

The mega road is being constructed by NPD COTRACO Company and is estimated to cost a whopping US$ 128m. It will traverse Burera district towards the Cyanika border between Rwanda and Uganda and will be divided into sections, from the base sector to the district office it’s about 25km and from the district to Butaro hospital it is about 14km, the rest is from the hospital to Kidaho sector at Cyanika border.

Mr. Kamazi also pointed out that a lot has been done in the district that has created investment opportunities some of the projects include building of hotels around Burera and Ruhondo lakes.

The development will traverse through 8 sectors of Burera district and is projected to be complete in the next three years.
