Jinja Road are underway to expand the 2.5km, Jinja Road to six lanes. This is in line with the Kampala Capital City Authority’s campaign of upgrading roads to boost Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
Speaking at the launch of the Ush 8.9billion (US$3.5million) reconstruction project, the director of Works at KCCA, Andrew Kitaka, said the road reconstruction, contracted out to Energo Construction Company, would last six months.
Kitaka said the rehabilitation of Jinja road, which will start from Kitgum House junction Katalima road Nakawa, will accommodate three lanes on both sides adding that this will enhance and ease traffic flow once completed.
KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi said government had released the money and tasked the contractor to complete the project within the stipulated time.
Musisi said the money was internally generated adding that they are grateful to all taxpayers for their efforts. She said the road will have sidewalks for pedestrians, covered manholes and green belts adding that they have developed a traffic management plan and traffic flow will change from time to time.
Energo Construction Company has undertaken different projects in Kampala which include reconstruction of Bukoto, Kisaasi, Tula, Nakasero and Buganda roads.
