Kenya is set to receive a US $2bn grant from the United Nations for the ‘Big Four’ development agenda, which includes affordable housing, growth of security, affordable healthcare and manufacturing.
Treasury secretary, Mr. Henry Rotich signed the agreement for the UN’s Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) between 2018 and 2022 that has been aligned to the Big Four agenda.

He further said that the new framework, which identifies the priority sectors where the UN will channel its aid funds for four years, replaces the current US $1.2bn programme which expires this month.
The programme will guide work and collaboration between the Government of Kenya and the United Nations towards achieving good governance, rule of law, human rights and gender equality.
Sustainable and inclusive growth
Other issues that were included in the framework are sustainable and inclusive growth, environment and climate change, and equitable social and human capital development.
The new framework represents 58.33 per cent over the previous programme that supported education, water, sanitation and HIV/Aids projects. Mr. Rotich pointed out that the funds would be used for universal healthcare and job creation for the youth as well as improves governance, transparency and accountability.
The United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) is a strategic, medium term results framework that describes the collective vision and response of the UN system to national development priorities and results on the basis of normative programming principles. It describes how UN Country Teams will contribute to the achievement of development results based on a common country analysis and UN comparative advantage.
