India’s Royal Orchid Hotel plans to construct a five-star facility near Maasai Mara National Park in Kenya in the next two months.

The project dubbed Mara Azure will be constructed near Talek River will be of a 60-bed capacity and will comprise of 12 luxury tents, five-star cottages and ‘sizeable’ conference facilities.

Hotel Royal Orchid Azure Nairobi, Chairman, Mr. Parbat Pindoria confirmed the reports and said that the hotel will give Royal Orchid a competitive edge when consumers choose to savour the great wildebeest migration experience after spending in their Nairobi’s Hotel Royal Orchid Azure.

“We have been losing guests to rivals when our guests want to have a Safari experience in the Mara. The new development will be a circuit that guests rotate through either coming from Nairobi, Mombasa or Amboseli,” said Mr. Pindoria.

The facility set for opening in December this year will be first hotel of its kind in the Mara after it made its debut in Kenya two years ago; sitting on a 25-acre piece of land it is strategically located so as to allow guests watch wild animals from their rooms.

The chain said it would open the facility and have competitive prices setting the stage for fierce battle for visitors with existing rivals including giants like Amboseli lodges.

“We must have competitive prices in Mara,” said Pindoria.

Royal Orchid currently has a presence in the East African region with the Royal Orchid Malaika Beach Resort that opened recently in 2013 and the owners are thinking of using it to tap into the Uni-Visa plan that links tourists from Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda.

The hospitality sector in Kenya has remained attractive while being supported by Kenya’s position in the map as a regional hub for East and Central Africa and the attractive tourist destinations.
