Khato Holdings Executive Chairman, Simbi Phiri, says his company is looking to transform communities along Lilongwe-Salima Road. This area is coincidentally also the designation of the Lake Malawi -Lilongwe Water Supply Project.

Lilongwe Water Board contracted Khato Civils’ company with a view to implement the US$700m project. Upon completion, the project is expected to address the perennial water shortages in the Capital City and surrounding areas. The firm won the contract after Phiri made the pledge last week in Sandton, Johannesburg.

According to him, among the focus areas is construction and renovation of schools, clinics and recreation centres. These amenities will serve the purpose of youth empowerment through employment and entrepreneurship.

When complete, the Lake Malawi- Lilongwe Water Supply project will create spin-off businesses for thousands of locals. These people will come in handy in the supply of goods and services to the company and its staff.

Business ventures

Khato Holdings intends to use the project as a stepping stone to doing more businesses in the country. They intend to venture further into property and manufacturing among other areas. Additionally, Khato Holdings plans to penetrate the Africa market and leave a footprint of top-class infrastructure.
