Mumbai Metro Line 12 project floats construction works tender

The first tender for Mumbai Metro Line 12, also known as the Kalyan-Taloja Metro Line 12 project has been announced with bids scheduled for opening by February 2. Following this, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will select the most suitable contractor for the project’s construction.

As a part of the procedure, after the appointment of the consultant, the project will offer an invitation to other tenders, including the civil work order. By November, the project aims to have begun construction works.

The project’s scope of work features in-depth, design consultancy for architectural as well as building services. These will include civil, electrical, and mechanical works for stations, auxiliary structures, and depots. The services will also be for staff quarters, as well as the operation control center.

As a whole, the project will feature a 20.7-kilometer-long metro, line. It will serve as a connection between Taloja and the Kalyan West. Quite impressively, the project will have a total number of 17 elevated stations. Kalyan West will serve as the origin station, while Taloja will be the destination station.

Noteworthy, Kalyan West is already, an essential part of the Mumbai Metro Line 1 that strives to provide commuters with better connectivity to the region especially the areas of Dombivali, Taloja, Ulhasnagar, and Kalyan.

Funding and expectations for the Mumbai Metro Line 12 project 

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is funding the rail project. Currently, its total cost is Rs 5,494 crores. Additionally, its contract period is 48 months. As per MMRDA, the earnest money deposit for the project’s development work is Rs 11.28 lakh.

Upon completion of the Metro Line 12 Project, commuters will experience a more hassle-free as well as efficient mode of transport. Additionally, it will significantly contribute to a reduction in traffic congestion within the region. Furthermore, it aims to contribute to reducing air pollution.
