Construction on the AdventHealth cancer centre in Johnson County, Kansas will start soon, according to the hospital officials. The $76.5 million centre will enable AdventHealth Shawnee Mission to treble the number of patients it serves by 2030.

On the hospital system’s Merriam site, close to 75th Street and Interstate 35, the three-story, 71,000-square-foot structure will be constructed. It will only be used for cancer treatment. The structure will take the position of AdventHealth’s current cancer centre, which is located in a medical office building at 9301 West 74th Street. Hospital authorities stated that the opening is planned for the spring of 2024.

According to officials, patients will see shorter lab wait times and speedier access to chemotherapy. Additionally, it will enable AdventHealth to take part in more clinical trials. Any cancer-related care, including prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up sessions, will be provided to patients there.

Proposed features of the New AdventHealth Cancer Centre

According to a statement from the hospital, the facility will feature new areas for radiation oncology, infusion treatment, labs, rehabilitation services, a pharmacy, and provider clinics. The centre was designed by the Leawood-based Hoefer Welker architecture firm. The Diagnostic Breast Center for AdventHealth will also be located on-site.

Windows in the AdventHealth facility allow natural light to enter the space where patients get infusions, bringing the outside within. Patients and their families will have access to an outdoor terrace. According to the hospital, the AdventHealth Kansas City Foundation has started a drive to generate money for the building and cutting-edge cancer treatment equipment. Initiation of construction is expected in October.

In almost a dozen states, AdventHealth has nearly 50 hospital campuses as well as hundreds of care facilities. The Merriam campus, as well as campuses in Lenexa, Olathe, and south Overland Park, are all part of the Kansas City metro area.
