The Lagos State government in Nigeria plans to construct several roads in the state after it approved the construction of 114 inner roads in the state. The US$ 87.74m projects will be executed across 20 Local Governments (LGs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State.

Mr. Kolade Alabi, the Executive Secretaries and the Conference Chairman made the announcement during a press briefing in the company of Mr. Steve Ayorinde, the commissioners of Information and Strategy, along with Mr. Muslim Folami Coker, the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs.

The projects are intended to ease the access and improve the inner roads in the local government and LCDAs. Also on completion the roads will greatly impact the social economic benefits on the lives of the state’s residents.

According to Mr. Alabi, the project will be executed to the standard requirement with covered drains, sidewalks and street lights. The construction projects are however, expected to be completed within the next 6 months.

Two roads tenders within the local government had earlier been issued for an open competitive bidding and the awarded contractors have been mobilized to commence the construction works with immediate effects.

Phase I of the 114 roads project will involve Adeniji Kemi street, Ikorodu, Bolaji Benson, Alimosho, Jolaosho, Alhaji Idowu street, Orile Agege, Amuwo Odofin, Ogundele and Fashola street, Adebola Olojobi and Eko Akete and Mathew and Famuyiwa Olayiwola street in Agege Local Govt. however, the full list of the 114 roads is available on the state’s website.

Mr. Ayorinde, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, confirmed the actualization of the project saying that it has been initiated in October, 2015 when Governor Akinwumi Ambode help up a meeting with the Executive Secretaries of all the 57 Councils in the State and the meeting concluded to embark massively on the rehabilitation and construction of inner roads across the State.

Additionally, the projects have been designed to complement the ongoing massive road construction and rehabilitation in the State which has culminated in the repair of 300 roads in just 7 months period. The current administration is optimistic and determined to make Lagos State convenient for all.
