According to Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia, Road construction in Kenya is to benefit from tarmacking of more than 11,000km  by the end of June 2022.

The CS made the announcement in Mathioya Sub County where he commissioned the construction of Gitugi-Kagumoini road and inspected other roads that are under construction including Kanjama-Kagumoini, Kairo-Kagicha, and rehabilitation of Kiriaini-Mugeka road.

He said that currently, the government has tarmacked more than 10,500 kilometers of road and that many other roads across the country are under construction, and it is committed to ensuring that the roads under construction are completed by mid-next year.

Mau Mau Road

While speaking in Mathioya Sub County, the Transport Cabinet Secretary shed some light on the under-construction Mau Mau Road that traverses 4 Counties of Nyandarua Nyeri, Murang’a, and Kiambu. He said that the road, funded at a tune of over US$ 270.6M is earmarked to be completed by September next year and it is expected to spur agriculture and ecotourism in the aforementioned counties.

“The construction of Mau Mau Road has been handed over to four companies so as to hasten the works. Tarmacking the road has several challenges posed by the terrain but we are committed to ensuring the road is completed at the given timelines,” the CS further stated.

Views on tarmacking of the 11,000km of road in Kenya

Accompanying the CS were Peter Kimari the Member of parliament for Mathioya, Mary Waithera MP for Maragua, Gichuki Mugambi MP for Othaya, James Mwangi MP for Tetu, and Anthony Kiai MP for Mukurweini.

Anthony Kiai lauded the Road construction in Kenya adding that they will have a big economic impact in the near future. On his part, Mathioya MP noted that the road networks in his constituency would go a long way in supporting farming in the region which is known as a major producer of coffee, tea, and dairy farming.

  2. we appreciate if the contractions of Mombasa, to Kilifi highway will start Contraction by January 2022 as mentioned by cs. the fact remains that the business people along the highway we happy for the project to start as it was arranged by KEHNA. our business will grow accordingly, means of transportation will open for our business.
