The completion of a landlord capital improvement project at 3500 Lacey in Illinois has been announced by Skender. In Downers Grove, Illinois, the project is located where Interstates 355 and 88 meet.

Built in 1992, the former Sara Lee corporate headquarters were acquired by KORE Investments in 2019. Skender began remodelling the fitness centre, main lobby, and lower lobby of the 622,600-square-foot structure in May 2022.

The renovated structure serves as an illustration of how Chicago’s outlying offices might develop to compete with those in the city.

Skender worked as the project’s general contractor, working with OKW Architects to design a fresh, modern area for the 3500 Lacey inhabitants to enjoy. The stunning office building also houses the Esplanade Lakes Ballroom, a DoubleTree-run wedding location. The office building lobby was used as a cocktail place on the weekends, which made the project more complicated.

Skender was effective in orchestrating construction such that these activities could proceed as scheduled and without interruption. Skender was able to maintain the lobby looking nice on the weekends by using scissor lifts rather than scaffolding to allow for separate construction.

Commentary on the Skender 3500 Lacey renovations in Illinois

“Working with Skender on this significant refurbishment project was an incredible experience. These improvements went hand in hand with our technological connections. They significantly improve our already top notch tenant experience at 3500 Lacey, a trophy office tower.

We are overjoyed with how everything turned out. According to Anne Esterquest, vice president of operations at KORE Investments, the investment “completely exemplifies KORE’s people centric principles and community affirming ethos.”

Tim Rogers, project executive at Skender, said, “Skender worked hard to find the right balance of speed and cost-effectiveness in the face of global supply chain constraints and inflation. We worked together with OKW Architects.

We were able to provide solutions to every issue we encountered and made decisions together as a team.”
