Voortrekker Road Corridor in South Africa

Voortrekker Road Corridor in South Africa is reportedly complete at a total cost of R10 million. This is according to the City of Cape Town’s Transport Directorate. The project’s implementation began in September 2015 and reached completion in 2021.

The upgrade works were mainly the relaying of isolated sections of drainage channels. Furthermore, the project involved the removal and replacement of the existing asphalt surfacing.

Voortrekker Road Corridor is located right between Vasco Boulevard and Jakes Gerwel Drive within Goodwood. The new road has been opened to commuters. The refurbishment works for the project were carried out by the Roads infrastructure and Management team.

An allocation of approximately US $12.23m has been made in the current financial year for the Voortrekker Road Corridor reconstruction project in Cape Town, South Africa.

The funds for the construction of the Voortrekker road corridor in South Africa come from the city development grant. The construction project aims to create employment opportunities for residents in the area. Furthermore, the affordable houses will cater to workers such as nurses and teachers.

Other projects in the development grants include the water and sanitation Northern region sludge facility, plattekloof substation, rapid transport control center, Bellville wastewater treatment works facility, and the Belhar/Pentech housing scheme.

The eight metropolitan municipalities in the region will benefit from the development grant incentive to aid in the improvement of buildings and also help in job creation.

According to Johan van der Merwe, a member of the city’s mayoral committee for energy, environment, and spatial planning, the projects will be through partnerships. There will also be an improvement in the relationship between small and medium businesses due to the partnerships made.
