Despite interruptions caused by the pandemic, construction projects in Auburn University that involve  academic buildings and facilities have not stopped. Developments are progressing steadily, especially during these summer months with less activity and a more vacant campus.

Auburn is putting a lot of effort into building its campus facilities, with a year left for the construction projects in Auburn University to reach completion. The list of these ongoing projects include: The Football Performance Center, The Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center, The Chilled Water Plant, and The Academic Classroom and Laboratory Complex, which are all worth about $309 million in total.

Among the list of construction projects in Auburn University, Auburn’s football center is the newest project to be undertaken by the school. This $91.9 million project is spread across 233,400 square feet overall and will consist of a 138,100 square foot Football Operations Building, a 95,300 square foot Indoor Practice Facility and two full-sized, natural turf football practice fields. The site’s location is on the corner of West Samford Avenue and Wire Road. Auburn has  expectations of completing the facility in time to welcome its football players in the summer of 2022.

The $110 million Culinary Science Center project will serve dual purposes as an academic building and a living space. The facility will support the College of Human Sciences’ Hospitality Management program, specifically the Culinary Science, Event Management, and Hotel and Restaurant Management academic disciplines. It will also make provision for  six living spaces to be rented out to third parties. This two year project is scheduled for completion by spring of 2022. Overall, the entire premises will be 142,135 square feet

There will also be a $24 million Chilled Water Plant project and this two-phase project is intended to replace the old water plant in the core of campus, in the first phase and in the second phase, the one on Wilmore Drive will be demolished. The water plant on the campus will be replaced with a 7,200 square foot building with two 2,500 ton chiller units, and afterwards space will be available for a third expansion, as well. This project is scheduled for completion by the fall of 2022.

Construction of Auburn’s Academic Classroom and Laboratory Complex, started in the spring of 2019 and is expected to be completed by the spring of 2022. The 151,000 square-foot building is located near the baseball field and is designed to accommodate 2,000 students in 20 different classrooms and laboratories as well as six engaged active student learning (EASL) classrooms, and five lecture halls.
