A long awaited Residence Inn by Marriott in Homewood hotel project will soon break ground next to the BrickTop’s restaurant, and Aum Enterprises has been signed up  to begin construction on the new Residence Inn by Marriott at 2800 U.S. 280 S. in Homewood.

The Residence Inn by Marriott in Homewood project was initially meant to start in the first quarter of 2020, but was delayed and encountered several disruptions due to the coronavirus pandemic which sent the hospitality industry into a tailspin for a while before the government’s intervention stabilized it and the vaccines rolled out.

The cost of construction for this six-story extended-stay hotel is estimated at $18 million and it’s expected to be completed by the end of the year. This new extended stay hotel will replace the former Residence Inn on Lakeshore Parkway. It will be equipped with a pool and contain 120 rooms.

Rakesh Patel, president of Aum Enterprises in Birmingham said,” We are very pleased with its location next to Bricktop’s restaurant and at the intersection of Homewood, Mountain Brook and Birmingham.”

In addition to the new extended stay Residence Inn by Marriott in Homewood hotel coming up next to BrickTop’s restaurant, is the upcoming development of a small retail shopping center,  located in front of the new hotel site and next to BrickTop’s restaurant on U.S. 280 in Homewood.

This retail and restaurant outparcel will be between 6,000 and 7,000 square feet and is intended to attract a mix of two or three tenants which may include medical, restaurant, retail or service tenants. It also offers some of the highest traffic counts on the Red Mountain Expressway as well as a new construction design for retailers looking to enter Homewood and Mountain Brook.

A partner at The Retail Companies, Bill Clements said the team has plans of pre-leasing the development before construction begins. The Retail Companies team also mentioned that it has received positive feedback on the public’s interest in the property and is working towards bringing in tenants into the community who complement it and also ensure the tenant mix for the development.
