Construction Review had an interview with Bozdag Engineering Machinery Industry and Trade Co. Ltd. where they shared their insights on the challenges in the installation of concrete batching plants in Africa.
1) What are the current challenges facing the African market with regards to concrete batching plants installation
It is a fact that creating housing, roads, energy, water infrastructure and infrastructure for establishing industrial area which helps to increase development level of our countries is a big issue in African countries.
Rapid increase in population would also raise the need of infrastructure investment projects more. One of the most required inputs is concrete for these infrastructure investment projects. Therefore, the African market has a huge potential for different types of concrete batching plant as stationary and mobile.
2) What are the new technologies and trends introduced in the African market?
Dry type batching plants which do not have concrete mixers that prove to increase homogeneity of the concrete have been preferred in Africa ready-mixed concrete sector until recently.
However, because of improving the mix and strength of concrete, wet type batching plants has also been used frequently. Wet type batching plants have different capacity of concrete mixers.
The concrete mixer capacity gives the batching plant ability as well. Concrete mixers are produced as 1m3, 2m3, 3m3, 4m3, 4,5m3, 5m3, 6m3 compacted concrete capacities. How concrete producers select batching plant capacity depends on the project underway. For example, one of the concrete producer chose 100 m3/h capacitated mobile batching plant with a twinshaft mixer 2 m3 compacted concrete for their temporal work like housing infrastructure in Morocco. 180 m3/h capacitated stationary batching plant with a twinshaft mixer 4,5 m3 compacted concrete was preferred in one highway project in Algeria so the choice generally depends on the project at hand.
3) How is the reception of the new concrete batch technologies in the African market?
So long as the products are of good quality, strong and of affordable price then the African consumers are in for it. They have come to appreciate the new trends year after year and this has equally increased the number of projects we do in the region.
4) What is the future for Bozdag in Africa?
We as Bozdag have been manufacturing machinery and equipment for ready-mixed concrete industry for 35 years. We are preferred by ready-mixed concrete producers in domestic and foreign markets thanks to the accumulation of knowledge, expert staff and improving advanced technology.
We installed different kind of concrete batching plants in African market such as Algeria, Morocco and Libya. Moreover, we attempted to enter Ivory Coast area in one project two years ago. In that sense, we will desire to enter other developing countries in Africa to install concrete batching plants based on needs.
We believe that Africa is the world’s fasted developing continent in this century. Also, development efforts will be the highest level because of the raising the need of infrastructure investment projects with rapid increase in the population. Therefore, concrete batching plants are required to any kind of housing and infrastructure investments. We would like to be happy to install concrete batching plants in Africa and also to contribute to the development of Africa, as well.
