Engineers in Namibia created  Engineering Professions Association of Namibia (EPA). This was to ensure  a high degree of professional capability in the engineering profession. Also it ensures  protection of the interests of the public.

Ruling of the association is done  by a constitution. This constitution also  provides  for corporate members with voting rights and non-corporate members without voting rights. The others comprising of associates, retired members and students.

The EPA’s constitution allows it to organize itself. This depends  on members’ demand, into four divisions: Civil, Electrical and mechanical engineers, and Incorporated Engineers and Technicians.

Membership

If an incorporated engineer or engineering technician or engineer, is registered with the Engineering Council of Namibia, he or she qualifies  for corporate membership.

Corporate Membership:

Anyone who  registers  with the Engineering Council of Namibia as a Incorporated Engineer Engineering Technician  or  Professional Engineer.

Associate Membership:

Any person who registers with the Engineering Council of Namibia as a Incorporated Engineer in training, Professional Engineer in training, or any graduate not registered with the Engineering Council of Namibia  or Engineering Technician in training.

Nevertheless, persons that do not  qualify to register with the Engineering Council of Namibia, may qualify for  Associate membership if they involve themselves  in any other profession closely related or supportive to the engineering profession.

Student Membership:

Persons  studying at any institution to become an  Engineering ,Incorporated Engineer or Professional Engineer,  qualify for a student membership.

Retired Membership:

Any Corporate or Associate Member of not less than 55 years of age, who has convinced the EPA Council that he or she has permanently stopped  practicing the profession of engineering. He or she needs to have also stopped practicing related profession eligible for Associate membership. Also  his or her service to the profession should be  such as in the opinion of the EPA Council justifies submission to the grade.
