Caterpillar has introduced a revamped version of its 903 compact wheel loader that the company says is more powerful, more versatile and more comfortable to operate than the 903C2 that precedes it.
The new 903D boasts a new power train composed of a 40-horsepower, Tier 4 Final Cat C2.4 engine, and a hydro static transmission. The new pairing has increased travel speed by 25 percent to 12.4 mph.
With revised power train, Cat’s 903D loader is faster, stronger, more comfortable. The loader is equipped with Cat-designed planetary-reduction axles that are available with optional differential locks which can be engaged on the fly, respond instantly to changing ground conditions.
Lifting power increase
Cat’s 903D has a lifting power increase of 25 percent over the 903C2, the 903D is available with standard- (10 feet, 1 inch) or high-lift (10 feet, 7 inches) boom arms, with buckets ranging in capacity from 0.8 to 1.3 cubic yards.
Standard universal coupler

The machine is also equipped with a standard universal coupler. An electrically activated coupler is an available option, allowing operators to switch attachments from the cab. The 903D also features Z-bar loader linkage which Cat says provides “both aggressive bucket-digging ability and efficient control in fork applications.” Boom-float and return-to-dig functions are standard features.

Inside the cab, operators will find a new multi-function joystick which provides controls for directional changes, third-function hydraulics, the diff locks and continuous hydraulic flow. The new cab also has more leg room, improved pedal positioning, and improved entry/exit over the 903C2, Cat says, along with a suspension seat and tilt steering wheel.
