Construction of the first Whataburger, a texas-based food franchise, has been launched in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The franchise, famous for its made-to-order, fresh burgers announced that its location is expected to open by the end of this year in the InterQuest Marketplace shopping center, located n the northeast of InterQuest Parkway and Interstate 25. The restaurant joins another famous franchise, In-N-Out, who also constructed their first restaurant in Colorado last year. In-N-Out, the California-based franchise built its distribution and production facility in Victory Ridge. When it opens, the famous restaurant will add its name to the growing list of food services in InterQuest, the booming commercial area that’s also home to hotels, retailers, movie theaters, entertainment centers, an indoor water park, and hundreds of apartments.

Cherwell Software and Bal-Seal Engineering are among major employers nearby, while New Life Church and Pikes Peak Community College’s Rampart Range campus stand just east of InterQuest Marketplace. The near 900,000-square-foot mixed-use complex was developed by real estate giant Nor’wood Development Group of Colorado Springs. BurgerWorks Colorado was also contracted by the franchiser to purchase another site east of Dublin and Powers boulevards, in northeast Colorado Springs, where it anticipates opening a second Whataburger in the first half of 2022. Whataburger also has purchased a building east of Powers and Constitution Avenue that it’s remodeling into an employee training center and its offices.
“We hope that eventually, you don’t have to drive all the way across town to fill your Whataburger craving. There are trade areas that we know that we want to target. You never know what opportunities may or may not be available. We’re just kind of seeing what’s out there, but also focused on InterQuest because we want to come into the market in the right way and not only meet but exceed, everybody’s expectations,” said the president of BurgerWorks Colorado, William Tamminga, who will operate and open the Whataburger location in Colorado Springs.
