Polypipe, the UK’s leading manufacturer of plastic piping and water management systems, has received approval under the South Africa Bureau of Standards (SABS) product certification scheme after a comprehensive audit and inspection process.

To achieve SABS approval, Polypipe’s manufacturing and testing facilities in the UK were subject to an independent assessment, after which products were returned to the SABS laboratory in Pretoria for further stringent testing. The SABS certification applies to the company’s Polyfit and Polyplumb water supply pipes and fittings, which were tested in accordance with SANS 15876 – plastic piping systems for hot and cold water installations.

Barry Stubbs, Export Technical Manager at Polypipe commented: “The SABS certification mark is well recognised throughout the continent, providing customers with a guarantee of quality and reliability. Alongside the international certifications our products have achieved, distributors and installers in Africa can also take confidence from the renowned high standards of British Manufacturing.

“After supplying piping and water management systems to prestigious mining projects in Africa for some time, we were keen to secure SABS approval to demonstrate the benefits of using our solutions to the plumbing and heating industry in Africa.”

Commenting in the final approval report, the SABS auditors noted: “The Quality Department personnel dealing with this audit were highly qualified with many years of experience in the industry and very knowledgeable of SANS 15876 Series requirements.”

Polyfit is a hand demountable white push-fit polybutylene (PB) plumbing system, offering maximum flexibility and adjustability for a wide range of contract and retrofit projects. While the range is suitable for quick demounting and adjustment where necessary thanks to its push-fit installation, it still provides a secure lock-tight fit to prevent accidental release or theft.

It can be used with either white PB pipe systems or copper pipes, and requires no specialist tools to install or adjust. Available in a variety of diameters from 10mm to 28mm, Polyfit can also be reused if required making it a sustainable and long-lasting plumbing solution for domestic or commercial applications.

The Polyplumb range is a robust and reliable grey PB plumbing system for both cold and hot flow and central heating applications, which has been used by customers worldwide for more than 30 years. With a push-fit, one-step jointing process and high-performance stainless steel grab ring, Polyplumb is easy to install while also ensuring maximum joint integrity, minimising tampering as it can only be demounted by full dis-assembly. A fast and permanent integrated plumbing system, Polyplumb is again available in diameters of 10mm to 28mm and the range also includes a comprehensive range of fittings.

Polyfit will be available in South Africa through Polypipe’s partner distributor African Supplies, under the brand name Flowplumb.

The company’s products were recently applied in a waste treatment project at the Namisu Children’s Village waste treatment project in Malawi.
