The Lagos State Government has approved the construction of the first Medical Park in Nigeria.

The medical project will be constructed at a cost of US$247.3m in line with the government’s efforts to improve healthcare experience and promote medical tourism and excellent healthcare services of international standard aimed at ensuring qualitative healthcare delivery to Lagos residents.

Speaking at a press conference at the State House, Ikeja, Lagos Dr. Jide Idris, Health Commissioner, the development has been awarded to MEDIPARK International Limited Consortium which comprises of MEDIPARK International Limited, Cleveland Clinics Ohio USA, St. Barnabas Healthcare System New Jersey and American Hospital Management Company Washington DC.

However, the project is purely a Public-Private Partnership, (PPP) project therefore the government is not entitled to any fund contribution rather providing an old Nursing School land measuring 2 acres. The facility is expected to be completed within a period of 20 months.

An Evaluation Committee was set up in line with State procurement guidelines with individuals comprising both statutorily mandated members and officers invited to lend technical depth to the project exercise.

According to the Certificate of Compliance from the State Public Procurement Agency and a final presentation to the Executive Council of Lagos State, approval has been granted to MEDIPARK International Limited Consortium which comprises of MEDIPARK International Limited, Cleveland Clinics Ohio USA, St. Barnabas Healthcare System New Jersey and American Hospital Management Company Washington DC to be the developer to construct, manage and operate a Medical Park. The project is also a joint venture arrangement with Ibile Holdings Ltd.

The Medical Park will be located along Awolowo Road in Ikoyi at the former Lagos State School of Nursing site, spanning over 2 hectares of land. The facility will serve as a one stop shopping medical experience offering spaces to primary care physicians alongside in house specialists as well as ancillary services providing a full spectrum of excellent quality high technology cutting – edge medical and diagnostic services to cater for general and specialty medical services tailored to meet the medical needs of Lagos residents and Nigerians at large.

The facility, will also comprise of a central management area, theatre complex and procedure rooms, ward complex, clinic complex, conference and seminar complex medical goods and lifestyle shopping centre, stress management and lifestyle improvement unit, data cabling/integrated IT system, structured landscaping, staff quarters, residential accommodation, hotel, emergency and ambulance service, trauma unit, helipad amongst other things.
