Proffessor Jürgen Schrempp who has served as director at Sasol in South Africa board for 18 years will be stepping down as director and lead independent director during the coming annual general meeting to be held in December 4, 2015.

Sasol is South African based energy and chemical company.

Schrempp, who is best know internationally for his role in the DaimlerChrysler merger and locally for his leadership role at Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA), reached the retirement age of 70 during the 2014 calendar year, but Sasol extended his term to ensure continuity

This announcement was made by the Energy and Chemicals Group owing to the fact that Schrempp had reached the retirement age of 70 but the company had extended his term to ensure continuity.

Schrempp resigned from the Mercedes-Benz South Africa board in January 2014 having served the company since 1974 on different roles.

The chairperon of Sasol,Dr Mandla Gantsho was grateful to Schrempp for his contribution to the company and noted that he had agreed to continually support the Sasol board with leadership development and succession.

Gantsho also noted that the board would announce the appointment of a lead independent director to who will succeed Professor Schrempp at a suitable time.

The energy and chemical firm Sasol in South Africa will have to look for new director.
